* Disclaimer: This post is not technical, even though it may seem like it will be. I’m not a technical person and I like easy things. Headup is cool and easy – so read on!
Last week I came across Headup, a great little dynamo I discovered from Jeff Pulver’s blog. I installed it and also followed Headup on Twitter…
headup@carsonmckee – shucks… no one ever called me a little Dynamo before… : )10:01 AM Mar 10th from web in reply to carsonmckee
The short story: Headup is a Firefox plug in that collects info about an item or person that has social media content elsewhere on the web. When you mouse over it, a (cute) little icon appears to alert you that there is more info available on other platforms. If you click on it, a small box appears with a preview of this information in it.
If you are into social media, give Headup a try.
Headup gives you a real “heads up” about other things that individuals or items are doing online and it does it in a very unobtrusive way. I am still experimenting with it, but so far, I think its a very interesting tool.
Headup represents what many are choosing to call Web3.0 – the Semantic web.
What does Semantic mean? The study of meaning in communication.
For a better explanation and example, Click Here.
Headup does a good job of collecting info across platforms and allows a user to pull data and info from a variety of sources. It operates and bridges between worlds on the internet and brings them together. We are seeing an increasing amount of semantic web activity already in how Facebook integrates with many apps like Twitter or Delicious and social media complilers (like SocialThing!) that collect and display all your information in one place.
I’m not a fan of buzzwords, but this is the landscape of Web3.0… What do you think?

Hi Carson,
Since you wrote about our semantic web Firefox addon last March a lot has changed…
Our semantic web platform is now available as a content enrichment platform for publishers and bloggers. Headup widgets compatible with most major platforms (WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, Blogger, Typepad and code embed) are available as free downloads from http://headup.com
We’ve reworked our Natural Language Processing capabilities from top to bottom so as to improve the way we understand and process meaning and context (the full story is here: http://blog.headup.com/2010/01/why-we-understand-you).
I’m hoping you’ll consider doing a follow up story to review our widgets, and who knows – you might even consider adding them to your blog…

Cheers,
Mike
